Acknowledgement of School Posting and FAQs
Registration
1. I have received the notification from MOE that my child has been posted to Pei Hwa Secondary School. What should I do next? |
Ans: You will receive a notification from Pei Hwa Secondary School via Parents Gateway for your acknowledgement between 22 to 23 Dec 2020. This will serve as the confirmation of your online registration. If you do not have Parents Gateway yet, please click here to register for it.
|
2. I have acknowledged the Parents Gateway notification. How do I know if my registration has been confirmed?
Ans: You will be able to see from your Parents Gateway message that you have ‘Responded Yes’ to the notification (See attached sample). Additionally, you will receive a welcome message from your child’s Orientation Group (OG) Teacher on 23 Dec to introduce himself or herself based on your official e-mail addressed with MOE. If you still require more assistance, please e-mail the school at peihwasec@moe.edu.sg or call 65009580 (Please be patient with us we are expecting high volumes of traffic regarding Sec 1 registration during this period).
|
3. Will there be any Parent Talks during the registration?
Ans: There will not be any Parent Talks during the registration day. We have planned for the respective talks by the Principal as well as other school personnel to take place on Week 1 of school which will be conducted via Zoom. More information will be sent to parents via Parents Gateway.
|
4. How do I know if my child is eligible for Higher Mother Tongue Language (HMTL)? How do we submit the forms?
Ans: Your child will receive Form A from the school via Parents Gateway. Parents are to follow the instructions accompanying the form on accepting or rejecting the offer. *If you are accepting the offer, do remember to purchase the relevant Higher Mother Tongue subject textbooks.
|
5. How do I know if my child is eligible for Subject-based banding (SBB) subjects? How do we submit the forms?
Ans: Your child will receive a notification from the school via Parents Gateway on his or eligibility for the respective SBB subjects. Parents are to follow the instructions accompanying the form on accepting or rejecting the offer. *There will be a short online Zoom session on 23 Dec morning for parents whose children are eligible for SBB. Details will be sent via Parents Gateway by 22 Dec 6pm. *If you are accepting the SBB offer, do remember to purchase the relevant high level subject textbooks. |
Orientation/First Day Matters
1. What should my child bring on the first day of school?
Ans: We have prepared a 2-day Orientation Programme (4/1/2021 – 5/1/2021) for your child on the first week of school. The programme objectives will focus on getting the students to know his teachers and peers better, as well as familiarisation of the school. The rest of the week will allow your child to meet his or her Form teachers, as well as subject teachers and peers from the same Teaching Groups. Details on the 2021 Sec 1 Orientation will be sent via Parents Gateway.
2. Will I be allowed to accompany my child into the school? Ans: We apologise that we are unable to allow any parent to enter the school during School Hours. Please drop off your child at the main gate outside the school. *Note: In the event of wet weather, the school will allow parents to drive in and alight the child at the foyer. Please follow the directions provided by the school staff who will be on duty and we seek your understanding in the event there is a delay.
3. Can my child still use their Primary School Smart Card (SSC) for public transport travel? Ans: While Secondary One Students are waiting for their Secondary level School Smart Card (SSC)s to be ready, they can continue to use their Primary level SSCs for concessionary travel till end Apr 2021. Students can still purchase the Bus Concession Pass (BCP) using their Primary level SSCs but they would need to purchase the BCP for Secondary School students.
4. I have ordered the textbooks and uniform online but they have not been delivered/ the sizes are incorrect. As part of our efforts to encourage online purchases and delivery of school textbooks and uniform, students will be allowed to wear their Primary School attire on the first week of school. Similarly teachers will not cover textbook content on the first week. This will provide some flexibility in the purchase of textbooks as well as the exchange of uniforms. *If the delivery/exchange of textbooks and uniforms delays beyond the first week, please ask your child to inform his or her Form Teacher so that the school can make arrangements for them to be excused from wearing PHSS school attire, as well as inform subject teachers to take note. |
Textbook Purchase
1. I have purchased the textbooks online. Can I opt to collect the books in school?
Ans: Online purchases of textbooks are for home delivery only. You are strongly encouraged to use this option for the purchase of textbooks. Do refer to the instructions in the booklist for exchange of items during school term. We are very sorry but due to Safety Management Measures (SMM), we will have to allocate specific timeslots to ensure that there are adequate and appropriate processes to ensure everyone’s safety. If you are unable to make it during the allocated time-slot you can choose to walk-in during the additional time slots on 30 Dec from 10am to 4pm. Please note that only ONE parent can accompany the child into the school and waiting time may be longer than usual.
2. I prefer to come to school to purchase the textbooks. What should I do? Ans: The booklist is available here (insert attachment). Do print it out or save it in your phone for reference. You are only able to purchase the books in the school based on the allocated timeslot given to your child. If you are unable to make it during the allocated time-slot you can choose to come during the additional time slots on 30 Dec from 10am-4pm. Please note that only ONE parent can accompany the child into the school.
3. Am I allowed to drive into the school? In adherence to SMM, parents will not be allowed to drive into the school. You are able to park at the following public car parks that are conveniently located near the school:
4. My child is under MOE FAS. When do I come to collect my school textbooks and uniform? Ans: You can collect the school textbooks and uniform on 23 Dec from 8.30am to 12pm. (Please note that this slot is strictly for MOE FAS students only. No other sales of uniforms and textbooks are available on this date)
Uniform Purchase:1. I wish to purchase the uniform online and collect in school. How come this option isn’t available for uniform? Ans: We regret to inform that our vendor is only able to accept delivery options for uniform for online purchases. If you wish to collect the uniform in school, you would have to purchase them from the counters in school during your allocated time-slot (same slot as textbook collction/purchase). Please note that payment methods available for uniform purchase are Cash and Paynow only.
Other queries: 1. I would like to find out more about the support provided by the school’s AED LBS (Allied Educator for Learning and Behavioural Support). How do I go about doing it? Ans: Our school has a senior AED LBS who will be on standby on 23 Dec 2020 to answer your queries. You can e-mail her at yeo_gek_cheng_anna@moe.edu.sg on your queries or to arrange a conversation.
2. Are there locker facilities for students? Ans: Yes. We have locker facilities provided by a vendor. Students should rent a locker so as to keep their school belongings which they do not need to take home for the day. As students will be moving to different classrooms for lessons, they will not be allowed to leave their materials in the classroom during and after school so as to avoid misplacing their items. More information on the locker rental will be sent to parents soon. |
