Sec 1: Improving an area in the school
Students work in groups of 4 to implement a school improvement project. They use the design thinking process to find out the needs of the school, brainstorm for ideas and create solutions to meet the needs.
Sec 2: Good and Green Neighbour
Students go around the Fernvale Estate to collect newspapers and old clothing for recycling (Green). By being involved in the Good and Green Neighbour Level VIA, we hope to raise community awareness of recycling and care for the environment. We also hope to instil a sense of social responsibility in our students (Good).
Sec 3: Student-initiated ProjectThe Intergenerational Learning Programme (ILP), an initiative of Council for Third Age (C3A), aims to promote lifelong learning and to forge intergenerational bonding between the youth and the elderly.
Pei Hwa Secondary is working with Family Central (FC) as the organiser for the ILP, in having the students to teach the elderly a particular topic. Through interaction, the youth learn important values and life lessons while the elderly gain new knowledge and skills.
Sec 4/5: Charity Food Drive
Students collect food items from the residents in the neighbourhood. Food items collected would be distributed to the needy in the community through Food from the Heart.
Pei Hwa Community Day
Community Day is a biennial event that Pei Hwa organises to develop innovative and compassionate citizens. Students sell tickets to raise funds for our adopted VWOs and the tickets bought will be used at our Community Day carnival.
Sec 2 and 3 students plan and organise food and game booths such as popcorn, ice cream float, dunking machine and haunted house during Community Day.
As part of their service learning,
- Sec 2 students will conduct a needs analysis with their adopted VWO and create a token (using micro:bits) for them
- Sec 3 students will plan and provide a service for their adopted VWOs.
