Student Testament
"NCDCC has a balanced focus on theory and physical components; a wide variety of lessons spread across 4 categories: Fire Safety, Medical Response, Urban Rescue, and Footdrill. We are given opportunities to represent our school and our unit in competitions such as the UACDC (Urban Adventure Civil Defence Challenge) that utilise our knowledge learned during CCA, and for community service by allowing us to set up booths to educate the public on crucial life saving skills such as CPR and basic first aid bandaging. Throughout these 3 years in NCDCC, I have learned the key importance of communication, teamwork, and the need to not leave anyone behind. It was crucial for us to know how to work with one another and be accountable for everyone in the unit. The most challenging moments that I experienced were the intense training sessions for the prestigious Precision Drill Competition. However, no matter the challenge faced, perseverance and hard work made it one of the most memorable experiences I have ever had in NCDCC." Unit Sergeant Major, Richie Cheah Chen Li
"Despite CCA not taking up as much time as studies, NCDCC has had the largest impact on me throughout my 3 years. Throught the years, I've had the opportunity to learn and grow as a person along with my caring CLTs and my batchmates. I've learned many valuable life saving skills but most importantly, it has helped my develop into a confident and resilient individual. NCDCC never fails to make CCA trainings valuable and fun-filled. Personally, my favourite time in NCDCC was training for the Prestigious precsion drill competition and developing teamwork and bonding among everyone in the squad. However, the most challenging part of NCDCC would be the specialisation course I took part in outside school to attain my spec tag and gain my staff Sergeant rank. Despite the troubles of having to leave my house at 6am everyday to travel and being stretched to my limits, I learned perseverance and have become stronger and better from this experience." Regimental Sergeant major, Lewis Lim (Lin Jingxuan)
"CCA for me and others alike is certainly one of the most thrilling and fruitful parts of secondary school life. Initially , I was expecting NCD to be mundane and was dreading being placed in this CCA. However , after being in NCD for a few years , I realised that NCD is more than just foot drills and theory lessons , it is a place to develop leadership skills , forge meaningful friendships and grow self-confidence . Through the years ,I have learnt countless things from life saving skills such as CPR to learning how to develop my overall character and be more outspoken . Under the careful guidance of my CLTs , TOs and friends , NCD has definitely been one of , if not the most enjoyable part of my secondary school life. Despite that , I still went through countless challenges. For me , the most challenging moment has got to be training for the precision drill challenge (PDS) , it was certainly both mentally and physically taxing , having to spend additional days training for it. At first , it was very tough for me as I was not the best at foot drills . However , after receiving encouragement from my seniors and CLTs , I managed to find motivation and continue pushing myself . All in all , I have made amazing friends which I couldn't have asked more from and I truly cherish all the experiences I have had in NCD , and I do not regret being here." Assistant Sergeant Major, Chye Kin Yoong, Gabriel
