Into its 14th year now, Pei Hwa continues to enjoy a reputation for having a caring and conducive learning environment and for producing students who are motivated to contribute back to the community. Building on our past successes and cognizant of the challenges that our students will face in the future workforce , we aim to develop our students to be innovative and compassionate citizens. We believe that if our students live with compassion and empathy, embrace innovation and are guided by the correct values, they will live a fulfilling life for themselves and for others. Thus, in Pei Hwa, we focus on providing a holistic education for our students so that every Pei Hwaian will become a Leader, a Scholar and, an Altruist and that they will realise the school’s vision for them to become the “Pride of the Community”.
Every student who enters Pei Hwa is a unique individual. The school looks into providing students with access to different opportunities to nurture each of them holistically. The teachers strive to explore ways to make learning authentic, relevant and meaningful, both within and out of the classroom. The school strongly believes that academic results while important are not the only thing that will determine a person’s success. Character development plays an equally important part, if not more, in ensuring that our students are self-disciplined individuals and will internalise the school’s PRIDE values by the time they leave us.
The world is evolving quickly and we must connect education with the real world. Our Learning for Life Programme (LLP) in the area of ‘Community Youth Leadership’ aims to grow the spirit of community leadership and altruism in our students so that it instils in them a sense of rootedness and responsibility for their community and fellow Singaporeans. Robotics and Programming – our Applied Learning Programme (ALP) is a school-wide programme that uses coding to teach computational skills to our students. They get to apply what they have learnt in their ALP and LLP to solve problems in the real world contributing back to the community through the Project Work Curriculum in the Lower Secondary. We help our students to appreciate the relevance and value of what they are learning in the academic curriculum and develop stronger motivation and purpose to acquire useful knowledge and skills that will be important even after they leave us. Beyond formal programmes, students can also participate in interest group activities that will help to nurture their interests and develop their passion.
We recognise that we cannot do all these alone. We are fortunate in Pei Hwa to have wonderful support from our parents, Alumni, School Advisory Committee, Pei Hwa Foundation and the community. It takes a village to raise a child and we are confident that with the community coming together, we can grow our students to be upright individuals, love learning and be a blessing to all those around them.
