Why Join Pei Hwa’s Guzheng Ensemble
CCA Achievements at Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation
Our Guzheng Ensemble was formed in 2011 as a new CCA to give students more options to develop their passion in the performing arts. With determination, diligence and passion, we achieved the Certificate of Distinction at our first SYF AP in 2013. After our first SYF, we continued to work hard and pushed boundaries. In the latest SYF AP 2017, the CCA was again awarded the Certificate of Distinction.
Talent Development Programme
In line with our school’s motto to nurture talents, the Guzheng Ensemble has a comprehensive talent development programme to ensure that our members are able to reach their maximum potential. Many of our members join us at Sec 1 with little or no experience in playing the instrument. Most of our members develop competency good enough for them to play alongside their seniors in one year. Many of our members become highly competent players by Sec 3. Members who show good competency and determination would be given the opportunity to play solo parts or in small (3 to 9 players) ensemble.
We constantly look out for performance opportunities to challenge ourselves and to widen our horizons. Our latest external performance was at Marina Mandarin Hotel where 7 of our members played for over 400 audience. This event was graced by Dr Lam Pin Min.
Performance Opportunities at Purpose Build Performing Arts Venue
Our school believes in a holistic education for our students. Besides creating opportunities for our performing arts CCAs to perform at school events such as assembly programmes, lunch time concerts and various celebrations, the performing arts CCAs put up a concert on non-SYF years at a purpose built performing arts venue. Some of the venues where our concerts were held are Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Kallang Theatre and The Republic Cultural Centre. Through these concerts, Guzheng members get the opportunity to perform in mixed disciplined segments with other performing arts.

A Passionate Team of Teachers and Instructor
Our Guzheng Ensemble is headed by teachers who are passionate about the art form. Our instructors are carefully selected to ensure that they are both highly competent players as well as engaging in their teaching. Our teachers and instructor constantly explore ways to enrich our members’ CCA experience. The multi-racial music lunch time performance (in July 2018) initiated by them to commemorate Racial Harmony Day is one such example.
